Description

Well, after much days of working and collaborating here is the reposted story of "Swordswinging Part One" one of the new Interrealm shortshort stories.

This is set sometime post-part (long story and I don't want to get into the details) Anyway I have the full picture of the preview you might have seen earlier. With the re-writing of the story thanks to a collaboration on "Buzzword" [link] with :iconicelandicboy: This version is more in set with present tenses rather than past tenses and has a bit more descriptive talk

On the artistic side once again done by the great and professional-grade :icongigaton: for his work (two more are coming soon, I hope).

Well anyway, I hope you all enjoy the picture and the story and hope to come out with "Swordswinging Part Two".

Swordswinging pt. 1

by Xendrian M.

It is a mild, chilly day over in the greater Washington area and Xendrian is outside behind the headquarters in the artillery range, learning better handling of heavy swords. Normally, in the 27th century, most weapons are non-ballistic pulse guns, photokinetics and heavy lasers that can cut through the thickest metals like butter. But in Xen's line of work it's a principal requirement that all officers and personnel use the other kind of non-ballistics: Swords, bows and arrows, axes and even maces and morningstars. A whole array of weapons from centuries past each must use where the other kinds are not allowed for interfering with the natural progress of the world they visit.

The big, blue dragon handles the long sword, a personal favorite of his that allows him to hold with one or two hands and to make more force upon impact as he swings the 34 foot long slab of metal like a pro. Having years of experience since his training days at the Hyperspace Academy, and the field gave him the ability to handle the war blade like a seasoned warrior. His impressive display of swordsmanship, though, is rudely interrupted.

"Hey Xen!"

"Gahhh!!!" Xen jumped by the small voice and looks in a bit of panic before regaining his composure with some level of dignity, his sword held in a safe position, before looking down, spotting an all-too familiar werewolf smiling up at him.

"Braxus! Geez, you scared me! How many times I told you never to sneak and shout out at people holding deadly weapons!" Being admonished by a twenty feet feet tall Dragon, who was rippling in hard, heavy muscles AND holding a thirty-four foot long sword, would have put many people in their place. Judging by the snort coming from the calm werewolf, Braxus is not one of them.

"Xen, please I have enough experience how to deal with that as much as the next person, Besides I doubt you can hit me as fast as I scared you." Braxus says with a wide grin, but before Xendrian can voice any objections, the werewolf goes on with excitement in his voice. "I got something for you to try out."

Braxus is a werewolf in his league and he specializes in making the weapons of the past with a touch of the 27th century behind each and every one of them. What he has with him lying on a illuminating hover platform is a sword nearly identical as the one he holds, (aside from the obvious difference that the one on the platform is over thirty feet long) but the handle sported a totally different weaving pattern, the groves are smooth along the blade but the bottom has fierce looking teeths good for slicing down objects (or enemies), but the main difference is a small black sphere in the gap that connects the blade to the handle which is sparkling but also sending off a strange, but mild vibrating sound that gives the blade a constant and haunting humming.

"What is it?" Xendrian asks after giving the sword close inspection, his curiosity peaked and the inventor's rude interruption now forgotten.

"It's my first and newest N.B.W. that can increase the handling and force of the user." Braxus states. puffing out his chest in pride over his Non-ballistic weapon invention, then states in an overly-dramatic tone "I call it... the Gyrosword!"

"Gyrosword?" Xen says while thinking he could have come up with a better name for it. Raising a brow as he gives the giant blade another look over, then looks back at the proud werewolf. "You mean this black sphere is some sort of a gyroscope?"

"Well yeah, but this I call the superscope which will take the concentration of the motions into each swing leaving it to the full command of the wielder. It's so easy a child can swing like a pro, well a 700-pound child but you get the idea." Braxus explains with his usual enthusiasm then nearly jumps in excitement. "Try it out!"

Xen picks up the sword, its weight not any different from any other blade its size, and gives it a few thrusts, making more practice moves but so far he doesn't feel the effects of the sword, so he decides to do one trick that he always have trouble in doing, The Infinity Spin. the move where with one hand he swings the sword, making a clean double loop that is lose to making an infinity sign, a very difficult move even for someone of Xen's skill. But the insane difficulty of such a move quickly melts away as he finally masters what was normally difficult, even forbidden to him.

"Wow Brax, I can't believe it actually works, normally something goes terribly wrong, but I feel this can actually work." Xen breathed, his heart pumping strong over his achievement as he stares at the sword in his hands, then looks back down at Braxus, the big guy filled with excitement. "What else can it do?"

"Well the superscope can increase the striking force you give it twenty-fold depending on how you swing it." Braxus says, not quite able to stop from looking just a bit smug over his invention, now almost looking like a proud father.

From hearing that, Xen's eyes spot a thick target pillar that has been known to be unbreakable from years of hammer blows, tank shells and magic blasts. It was his moment to see if the pillar can finally be broken. With all his might and tension of his powerful body, the muscles of this behemoth dragon begins to swell nearly up half their size. Braxus isn't surprised at this fact, knowing Xen for long enough it would be pretty predictable, but what he doesn't predict is when the dragon charges full speed towards the pillar like a diesel train down with boosters. And with one swing the pillar is cut clean before it blows apart at the sliced zone. The view from Xen's side is nearly slow motion as he sees the full dynamics of the slice vaporizing the pillar with precision but that pride in breaking the unbreakable is short lived when he hears a small snap coming from the sword's superscope. Immediately, the sword takes a sharp turn to the left taking Xen with him and soon the powerful behemoth Dragon is loosing control of the blade as it acts like a rabid animal. Xen is sent into a wild, violent spin as the superscope overpowers him, who barely manages to hang on.

"Brax! what the hell! Stop this crazy thing!" Xen cries out in desperation as he struggles desperately with the sword that seems to make his life miserable right now.

"That shock must have broken the superscope," Braxus says thoughtfully, briefly looking rather unconcerned over his predicament, "I wonder if it can be enforced somehow to withstand greater pressure," he mused then suddenly snapped out of it and yelled across to Xen, "You got to stop and pin the sword down, it's the only way!"

"I gotta do what?!" Xen yelled in disbelief. A moment later the sword flipped him over, the ground making a slight rumbled as the big guy landed hard, though still maintaining his hold.

"Just do it Xen!"

Quickly, he tries to overpower the sword and and aims it right into the ground having a strong hold while the sword struggles to keep its spin. The more effort he puts on it , the more it forces back, Eventually the spinning motion of the blade lifts him right off his feet, twirling him round and round like a rag doll in the spin cycle right before flinging him off the handle and tumbling right for Braxus. The werewolf's feral instincts and strength saves his life as he leaps into the air and out of the way of the tumbling mass. Xen slams back first into the wall almost going right through it. Never before has something so small been able to toss him like a doll off a slingshot. Both the onlookers watch the sword as it spins faster and faster. Fearing it would blow itself apart, the two waste no time in taking cover behind the half-ruined wall, the werewolf and Dragon peering over to see what would happen. Suddenly a loud ping emanated from the blade followed by a sounding whoosh.

Both of them look at the damage and all they see is a fading tornado and a deep hole with a skid from where the blade took off. Xen sighed now that he was no longer struggling with the blade, then deep furious anger blossoms within himself, it's a source being a certain werewolf. But instead of ripping Braxus a new one, he instead chooses to sarcastically mock him.

"Well genius, that idea didn't work!" Xen surveyed the damage and then looks around to see where the blade flew off to. His superior hearing detects the sound of the sword and looks up to see the blade in the air seconds before disappearing into the clouds. He then looks back down at Braxus who is also looking in the same direction, though without knowing it.

"So now what?" Xen asks "Wait for it to loose energy and just find it miles rom here?"

"I doubt it because of that scope," Braxus, replies explaining that the superscope doesn't stop too easily, only until the blade hits something much denser than itself. However the weight of the blade and where the device had been placed, opens up a whole new serious problem...

Xen slowly nods as the werewolf explains the big guy slowly looking up into the sky and staring at something. "Tell me, because of the motion of the blade and with that thing still on, would, Oh, I don't know: cause it to act sort of like... a boomerang?" He asks in an almost conversational voice, still gazing upwards.

"Uh...probably," Braxus says slowly, doing some calculations in his head. "Why?"

"Because it's coming back! Hit the deck!"

Xen grabs Braxus by the scruff and pulls him down to the ground as the sword comes flying at them like a deadly boomerang. His white ponytail is the first victim to be cut down before swooping right over them. They quickly look back as tje massive sword crashes into the headquarter's tower. the sounds of screaming and panic floor by floor was attacked by the renegade blade before it ended with a loud crash and the sound of a car alarm. Both wanted to know what hit it that put an end to its rampage and picking up Braxus, Xendrian flew over the damaged crowds and controlled chaos to find the gyrosword sliced through a luxury car in facility's outside parking lot. Braxus being indifferent of the situation Xendrian assessed the damages that lead to his exclamations.

First noticing his hair flowing freely in the wind he grabs his locks and suddenly discovers his long ponytail gone, now left with tatters as if they were hacked by a drunken barber. "My... My... My Hair!..." Xen screamed with shock. Looking back at the headquarters now shattered with holes from where the sword cut through, "The Building! Oh damnit, look at it!" Xen continues to rant on. But Braxus looked at the final victim of the blade: A large sudan-like vehicle of luxury quality now sliced lengthwise by the now inactive sword. The werewolf jumps over the wreckage and views the blades most vital device slowly dying down to normal. Assessing the damage later he crudely replied "I'm really sure hate to be the poor bastard who owned this heap of metal."

That sentence cued in a sound of impending doom after they hear the car alarm end with a double "bwoop" sound.

"Your asses... my office... Now!"

Hearing that voice, the two didn't hesitate to guess who's car it was. It was the one-hundred thousand credit luxury car of the human assistant chief commissioner of Interrealm's civilian tier. It is essentially it was the sound of their new boss trying not to unleash his wrath against his most troublesome members of the organization unless they say or do something stupid to justify it. Xen simultaneously embarrassed and scared out of his mind for what's coming the only thought that ran through the dragon's mind...

"I should have called in sick today..."

End part one.
